Patchwork Baby Quilt for Hunter

Patchwork Baby Quilt for Hunter

Time in Japan has been flying by this past few weeks with little time to sew and even less time to blog.  There have been many little events in my personal life the past few weeks but as I’m adjusting to my “new normal” I should be back into stitching!  Of course, I’m back to blogging too.

One of the most exciting this to happen this month was the birth of an adorable little man named Hunter to a friend of mine. I’ve been doing my best to lend a hand here and there, but what kind of friend would I be if I didn’t also make Hunter a baby quilt?! Hunter’s momma (Jannette) and I poured over pictures on Pinterest until we decided to go with a simple patchwork baby quilt. There’s just something so timeless about basic patchwork and I certainly hope the quilt will be used for years to come.

Once the pattern selection was determined, we starting picking colors.  Jannette wanted a quilt that was primarily dark and light blue with pops of red throughout.  I’ve been hoarding a selection of fat quarters that I love and decided this was a great opportunity to start using them.  Do you hoard your favorites too?  I need to stop saving and start using!!

Isn’t this a pretty selection of blues and reds?  I decided to cut two 5″ squares from each blue FQ, and one 5″ square from each of the red to give the quilt a nice balance and variety of color.

I must have rearranged the squares on my design wall 20 times! I was a little worried about the intensity of the chevron fabrics, but my lovely followers on Instagram convinced me to leave them in.

Stitching squares was a breeze.  So relaxing and stress free. I didn’t really need to pin but I had a fun time testing out some new patchwork pins I got from Massdrop.  Love them!

Basting party!

I went with my standard stipple. Soft and sweet with some light blue 50 wt aurifil.  Perfection.

Little Hunter’s new room is light blue with cloud decals on the wall, so this fabric was a must buy.  It’s a perfect match and great for a snuggly quilt.

I machine bound the quilt for durability with a B+C print from the Daysail line.  I have yet to meet a B+C print I don’t love.

I finished the quilt hours before Jannette went into labor (a week and a half early!) so thankfully, I was able to gift the quilt in time.

I hope it is well-loved!
