Building a Pressing Board
As I’ve mentioned before, my absolute favorite quilting resource is craftsy.com. I’ve just recently completed watching a class taught by blog writer and modern quilter Elizabeth Hartman. She highly recommends building two simple resources that make a huge impact: A pressing board and design wall. Check out her craftsy class, Inspired Modern Quilts for all the details!
I spent a few minutes yesterday making myself a pressing board. It was so simple! All it consists of is a few layers of 100% cotton batting and heavy weight fabric wrapped around a 2×2 feet block of plywood and stapled in place.
Once stapled, use a little duct tape to keep the ends of the fabric from fraying.
Ta-da! A cute little pressing table. Can’t wait to use it!
Now, all I have to do is keep the board next to my machine while I’m quilting. This way I won’t have to stand up and sit down as I’m regularly switching between using my machine and using the iron. Additionally, the harder surface is supposed to be better for pressing perfectly flat blocks. I’ll let you know how it works 🙂
This project was such a success, I plan on making a design wall!
