Arcadia Quilt Top
When visiting family in PA, I picked up some really adorable fabric in a small mom/daughter quilt shop including fat quarters from Jenn Ski’s fabric line: Mod-Century.
The ladies who worked at the shop recommended this Arcadia pattern to me.
My first thought when looking at it, was “how ugly”. The colors and pattern looked so unexciting but fear not – fantastic fabrics really made this quilt pop!
The construction was fairly simple, made primarily of strip sets. Have you ever noticed that strip sets have a tendency to warp on you? I just learned a neat trick about how to prevent distortion from expert quilter, Jenny Doan in her Quilting Quickly Class. When you add each row, stitch the seam from alternating directions. I honestly have NO IDEA why this would make any difference but it worked! Perfectly straight strip sets for me.
With such geometric prints, I had to be very careful to keep everything in line!
I’m not usually a pinner, but I wanted to make sure all the blocks were aligned. Lots of pins!
All done with the top! Isn’t it cute?!
