And The “One Lovely Blog” Award goes to…
I got the sweetest email a few days ago from Beth (blogging at Cooking Up Quilts) telling me that she had nominated me for the One Lovely Blog award. I am so honored, thank you for thinking of me!
Beth and I met through the 2014 New Quilt Blogger’s Group and immediately hit it off. She makes such beautiful works of art, and I really enjoy learning from her. She is also uncommonly kind, always leaving positive and encouraging comments on my blog. I really appreciate our friendship! I highly encourage you to check out her blog, and to spend some time looking at her quilts. They’re stunners! CLICK HERE!
You may have seen the One Lovely Blog Award when perusing around the blogosphere, but in case you’re not, let me give you the low-down. In basic terms, the award is passed to bloggers/blogs that you really enjoy reading.
Its pretty simple, but also comes with some rules.
1) Share a little bit about the person who nominated you.
2) Share a few things about yourself that your readers may not know.
3) Choose up to 10 bloggers that you wish to nominate for the One Lovely Blog Award and share a bit about them.
Easy, right?
So now a bit about myself..
1. I am an extremely logical person. I can easily break down a problem or event into smaller components to work out the best solution.
2. I’m a dog lover! Boomer (Lab/corgi mix) and Einstein (Terrier mix) are both rescue pups. They like to hang out with me while I sew. Einstein is the boss, so he often claims the big dog bed for his own. He’s a huge snuggler with a Napoleon complex! Boomer is a sweet Momma’s boy, never leaving my side except to have play dates with his neighborhood pals.
3. I’ve been tutoring math for the past couple years to high school and college students, and I love it. I’ve had the pleasure of helping so many great students, and I love building relationships with each and every one of them. Helping them succeed in school is a bonus too! Right now, I’m working on setting up some online tutoring so I can continue working while in Japan.
4. I went to Pitt for college – Go Panthers!
5. I’m a city gal. I miss Pittsburgh terribly. The city has so much life and culture. I need another four years to keep exploring.
6. I HATE driving. I have a horrible sense of direction and seem to always be lost. Not having a car is the best thing about living in a city – public transportation is the best!
7. I like moving, which is good news for a military spouse! The hubby and I have lived in PA, OK, MS, TX, AZ and Japan since we were married (almost 4 years ago.) It’s always sad to leave our friends, our church and communities behind, but we have been blessed with great new friends and environments in each new place. The hardest part is being far from family, but we are extra thankful for the opportunities we have to visit home. I can’t wait for them to come visit us in Japan!
8. I married my best friend. Gosh, I love this man! <3
I hope you learned something new about me. Now I get the pleasure of sharing some other bloggers you should get to know. They certainly have very lovely blogs!!
Amanda @ The Cozy Pumpkin – Where do I even start? Amanda is one spectacular lady. We first connected when discussing blogging skills and (of, course) beautiful quilts. Our friendship has blossomed over the past year, and we’ve been email pen-pals discussing the highs and lows of our personal lives. She is such an encouragement to me! You can see her generous spirit on her blog too. She just recently finished up several quilts that are gifts for special people in her life. Check out this vintage inspired quilt for her son’s teacher, this neighborhood quilt for her daughter’s teacher, and this heart quilt for a special friend. They are all beautiful! Plus, she has a great Tuesday Tips series full of great ideas/skills.
Lorna @ Sew Fresh Quilts – Talk about a creative genius! Lorna is a pattern designer extraordinaire. Each new pattern she creates seems to get added to my “I want to make this someday” pile. You can see her available pdf patterns here: Pattern Store. I especially love the elephant parade quilt, which she has offered as a free quilt along. If also find myself visiting her blog regularly for her tutorials and tips.
Jessie @ Measuring Success – Jessie is the only quilt blogger that I’ve ever met personally. Our husbands both serve in the Air Force, so our paths crossed on a few occasions. Unfortunately, we moved on the other side of the planet from each other before we got a chance to stitch together. She’s new into the blogging community and I am thankful that I still get to see her stunning quilts. Jessie has a very modern aesthetic with an amazing handle on color. I really love everything she creates! Go show her blog some love!
Carla @ Granny Maud’s Girl – Carla and I also met through the 2014 New Quilt Bloggers Group. Carla’s talents stretch into many different textiles: quilting, sewing, knitting, crochet and embroidery. Amazing! I always really enjoy her posts – they’re full of wit and character and of course, beautiful quilts! She is the one that encouraged me to make NICU quilts, or humidicrib quilts as they are called in Australia. Carla was also kind enough to endure my endless bombardment of questions about life in Japan, having lived here a few years herself. She introduced me to many of this countries gems and oddities. I hardly believed her when she said the toilets had noise machines. Sure enough, they do!
Of course, there are many more bloggers whose sites I think are deserving of this award, but I don’t want to inundate you with excessive lists. I really hope you take the time to visit their four sites and leave a comment. After all, blogging is about building a community.
Enjoy your weekend, friends!
