Quilting Progress – Disco Quilt
I’ve been working on quilting up my Dad’s quilt. Doing the free-motion work myself always makes me nervous that I’ll ruin the quilt! So…to give myself a confidence booster, I made a small version of the quilt with some of my leftover scraps for practice and to test out different designs.
I reached out to my Instagram followers (who I so appreciate!) for their thoughts and they unanimously thought that I should mix and match the designs, keeping one design for each color. Thanks to their encouragement I got started!
My new house doesn’t have much non-carpeted floor space so I had to baste in sections on my kitchen table. Let me assure you that I will NOT do that again – it wasn’t east to keep creases out of the backing!
Just starting out – man is free motion on a domestic machine hard work. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. It counts as a workout, right??
On my very last block, my machine decided to spit some oil on my top. SO FRUSTRATING. I was able to get it mostly out and covered up the rest with a little thread play (after a small freak out moment, of course!)
And the quilting is all done! I’m very happy with the way it turned out despite my fears. Phew!
On to figuring out how to bind up the weird edges. Thankfully, Julie has some great tutorials on her blog. Wish me luck!
