The Butterfly Quilt Top
The top of my Butterfly Quilt is finished! Wooooo!
I really love it. The colors and design are just so fun – how couldn’t you?
It took me several very long days of piecing all the blocks and background pieces together to get to this point. Thankfully, my design wall was big enough, or this would have been a difficult project to keep organized.
I was a bit torn between leaving the butterfly as is, or adding the borders. Without the borders, it’s a more reasonable size for a wall hanging, but with the borders it can fit my bed. However, after talking to my lovely quilter, Teresa, she recommended adding the borders to extend some of the quilting designs. She made this quilt for herself and so I took her advice. Hers is beautiful – take a look here.
After all, with the borders, I can still hang it. Think: massive butterfly wall art.
The design is a bit lost on my queen size bed with the overhang, but it doesn’t bother me too much. The hubby says its much too girly to use there anyway! Can you believe that I’ve never made us a bed quilt? Looks like I’ll have to find something a bit more masculine.
Boomer knows that he’s not allowed to be on my projects when they’re on the floor. That doesn’t mean you can’t get very very close!
I’m so excited to be sending this top off to Teresa for quilting. She has been so incredibly generous and has offered to squeeze me in before the Air Force moves us. Which brings me to our latest big news:
We’re moving overseas! On Friday, the list of locations for our assignments was released. My husband’s class has the next week and a half to decide amongst themselves who goes where. We’re continually changing our minds about where we want to go, but we know we’ll be in either Japan, Korea or Italy. We can’t wait for this new adventure to start!
